Still using Windows 10? Here’s why you need to act now

Imagine if one of your essential business tools suddenly became unsafe overnight. That’s exactly the risk many businesses are facing with Windows 10.

Time is running out. Microsoft has officially confirmed that free support for Windows 10 will end on 14 October when it reaches its end of life.

That’s just weeks away. And considering how long it can take to plan, budget, and roll out an upgrade across your business, this deadline is uncomfortably close.

When support ends, it really does end. No more security updates. No bug fixes. No help from Microsoft if something goes wrong.

You’ll still be able to use your Windows 10 devices, but you’ll be doing so without protection, making your business a prime target for cyber criminals.

What’s even more concerning is that many business owners aren’t aware of this deadline. Recent surveys found that 18% had no idea support was ending, while another 14% had considered it but hadn’t yet started planning. That’s a significant number of businesses at risk of serious disruption or data breaches.

Yes, Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates (ESUs), but they’re not free, and they’re only a short-term fix. The cost increases each year, making it an expensive stopgap rather than a proper solution.

The smart move? Upgrade to Windows 11 now, while you still have time to do it properly and avoid unnecessary stress.

Windows 11 isn’t just a new version – it’s designed to be faster, more secure, and much better suited to the way modern businesses operate. It’s built for hybrid working, packed with productivity features, and includes the latest security tools to help protect your business from today’s threats.

You’ll also notice smoother performance and better integration with tools like Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Copilot.

There is one catch: not every device running Windows 10 will be compatible with Windows 11. You may need to upgrade your hardware as well. That’s why it’s important to act now, rather than waiting until the last minute when options are limited and costs are higher.

The key message? October 2025 is a hard deadline. The longer you leave it, the more difficult and expensive the transition will be.

If you haven’t started preparing, now’s the time. Ask your IT support partner, “Are we ready for Windows 10 end of life?” If the answer isn’t a confident “yes,” it’s time to make a plan.

And if you need a hand with the upgrade, my team and I are here to help. Just get in touch.
